New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

DNN Hangout - October 2015 - Getting Funky with the Form and List Module

DNN Hangout - October 2015 - Clint Patterson and the Form & List Module

This month is a hangout that I’m very proud to have been a part of.  For one reason, we announced an exciting DNN 8 module development contest.  A contest that will yield some people in the community a lot of cash.  The other reason, is that I have the honor of interviewing one of my favorite DNN brothers, Clint Patterson.  I think you’ll agree by the end of the hangout – if it takes you that long – that Clint is one of the smartest people in our community, and easily one of the most resourceful, passionate, and sincere members we have.  We are lucky to have him in our community.

Want to Be on the Show?

We are always looking for new people to be featured on the show. You don’t have to be an “expert” in anything. Just be prepared to chat with us about anything interesting about DNN, no matter how big or small.

Please let me know in the comments or via email if you’d like to be on DNN Hangout (or if you know of someone that should be on the show).

Next Episode

Next month, we originally were reserving the show for DNN 8.  With that release being pushed to January or so, we’re looking for a guest for November now.

Site/Extension of the Month

We’re always looking for sites or extensions to feature in this segment. Please let me know if you’d like for me to do a quick segment on one of your sites or extensions.

Who built the module? Codeplex lists no developers so one seems to be getting any credit.

Great question! I don't know for certain, but I believe it's the people listed as Coordinators.

However, I'm not sure if Ernst Peter has also been developing it, or if he was added simply to help move it.

Those coordinators joined 3 months ago. This module has been around for years. Anyway, I was just curious. Nothing important.

Stefan Cullman was the creator I believe... here's a blog he wrote about it back in 2012

Form & List was a name change from the original User Defined Table module. This module preceded Stefan Cullman's time as the leader of the project. During his time as the community leader for the project Stefan implemented many changes and enhancements which made this the full featured module that you use today. The team is currently includes Timo Breumelhof and Stefan Kamphuis who are handling the maintenance of the module.

Don't know much about Hangouts but the most important and interesting screenshots of Clint's F&L variations were uninteligible due to small size and resolution.
Anyway, that was the funkiest Hangout I've ever seen, mostly due to C's drawl.

Greg,

But I zoomed in so Joe could see them!!! lol, just kidding.

If you want the JS snippets just F12 the code on WeHuntSC.com. If you need more info than that, let me know what you would like and I'll cut you a video or provide sharp screen images for you.

Sorry for the resolution issues... I wasn't at my normal workstation.

And yes, the best part of Form and List is that it's so easy to use that Southerners can use it. UI/UX FTW!

@Greg: Thanks for the comment. Do you have any specific views that you wanted to see or know more about? Clint is monitoring these comments like us. I'm sure he'd be willing to help you out.

As for the "drawl" it's always interesting to see how different people from around the world have different accents, and how they're actually not the ones with the accent, from their perspective. It's the other people in the world that have the accent. Even more interesting is how accepting people are or are not towards other people being different, thinking differently, or talking differently. :)

@Will, mine was not a comment of scorn or reproach towards Clint's drawl. And I'm sure you know that as it's the other way around: I always wanted to develop a Southern American accent but to no avail. It's just a matter of envy :)

As to the gist of my coment I couldn't discern Clint's XSLT and javascript code due to too fine/blurry print on my screen. They were near the end of the video.
It's always beneficial to peek at others' code just to know where's one at, if you know what I mean.

Anyways, keep up the good work with your Hangouts as they are always fun to watch.

@Greg: No worries. Your comment was easily taken either way. So I was just putting it out there. You were one smilely face away from making sure of it too. :)

Thanks for watching and thank you even more for participating with the comments here. If you have any other suggestions or feedback, we'd love to continue to hear them.

@Clint, Will was so expansive that only after a couple of hours did I spot your comment to me. :) Eat it, Will. :)
I will surerly visit WeHuntSC.com and have a look around.

Thanks again.
