New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

The use of the Community Blog is covered by our Community Blog Guidelines - please read before commenting or posting.

Talk to the Experts at the DNN World, DNN 7 Genius Bar

7.0Logo_sm genius

DNN 7.0 is simply beautiful and simply powerful. It has a beautiful new design that makes it easy to get started and even easier to manage content with features like drag & drop and a new control panel. DNN 7.0 frees you to design spectacular web sites and develop powerful modules that take advantage of our latest and most innovative user interface advances with a completely rewritten default.css.

But DNN 7.0 also has a beautiful mind. It’s the most powerful version of our Social CMS and development platform to date. It gives in house and commercial module developers the ability to develop web services through the DNN Service Framework which is now based on Microsoft’s Web API. That means that web sites can now communicate and interoperate with any kind of device, application or web site that operates over the web. With the included jQuery, jQueryUI and Knockout.js libraries developers now have even more power to create dynamic client-side applications.

We are also extending DNN 7.0 to work better in the enterprise by providing  support for Active Directory and SharePoint Lists.

The DNN 7.0 Community Technology Preview is already available to the community and we are receiving a ton of great feedback. The DNN 7.0 beta is right around the corner. So this year, at DNN World there will be a DNN 7.0 Genius Bar where you can bring your computer and get help from the engineers who are designing and developing our next major product release. One of the most compelling reasons to make the trip to DNN World is to be able to speak directly to the members of the team who spend their days and sleepless nights working to bring you the most useful and compelling new features.

DNN 7.0 Sessions

A Deep Dive Into DNN 7.0

At the dawn of software development history, programmers wrote software for other programmers. Life was simple. Programmers understood their own technical needs and we were able to produce software to serve those needs. But over the last few years, the web has been busy evolving. Software is now expected to serve users from different functions, designing for emotional needs in addition to technical needs is now a must. Artists and developers have learned how to work together. DNN 7.0 is a great example of that, we have once more taken the leading WCMS in the Microsoft ecosystem and found the perfect point of intersection with the latest UI / UX patterns and techniques. In this session we’ll do a deep dive into the UI / UX improvements and the new features that the version 7.0 will bring to our ecosystem.

Designing for DNN 7.0

DotNetNuke 7 continues to build upon the user interface changes introduced in DotNetNuke 6. DotNetNuke 7 goes even further to give site designers greater control and flexibility. In this session you will learn everything you need to know to build great looking websites with DotNetNuke 7. You will learn about all of the CSS enhancements and what that means for existing site designs. We will also discuss best practices and guidelines for building high quality DotNetNuke skins.

DAL2- A New Data Layer For a New Decade

DotNetNuke is fast approaching its 10-year anniversary as an Open Source Software (OSS) project. During that time our Data Access Layer has not changed very much. The SqlHelper class which our SqlDataProvider class uses was original written for use on .NET 1.1. Data access methods have advanced considerably over the interceding years and so, with DNN 7, we are introducing a new modern Data Access Layer - DAL2. Based on the PetaPoco micro-ORM this new framework comes complete with support for modern Unit of Work and Repository patterns, as well as built in caching, paging, transaction support and other goodies. And it still provides complete support for close-to-the-metal data access like SqlHelper. In this session, Charles Nurse, Senior Architect for DotNetNuke Corporation, will do a code-focussed deep dive into the DAL2, and show how it can be used to simplify a module developer's life.
