New Community Website

Ordinarily, you'd be at the right spot, but we've recently launched a brand new community website... For the community, by the community.

Yay... Take Me to the Community!

The Community Blog is a personal opinion of community members and by no means the official standpoint of DNN Corp or DNN Platform. This is a place to express personal thoughts about DNNPlatform, the community and its ecosystem. Do you have useful information that you would like to share with the DNN Community in a featured article or blog? If so, please contact .

Build a DotNetNuke Module without writing a line of code!

Last year I founded and begun organizing the Capital DotNetNuke User Group, a group dedicated to all DNN professionals, enthusiasts and hobbyists alike.

Although running a user group has not been as easy and glamorous as I originally anticipated it does give me a great sense of accomplishment especially on nights like Thursday, June 21st, 2007.

Thursday night I had the pleasure (again! J) to do the honors and do a presentation on building a DotNetNuke module using the DotNetNuke Visual Studio StarterKit.
Attendance was great, pizza, chicken wings and drinks were a hit, and we had our first official sponsors Robert Half Technology (because me paying for pizza for this event prior to this should not really count as an official sponsor).
We even had folks drive all the way down from York, PA (that is a 2 hour drive folks!) to come join this great group!
Based on the several complimenting emails I have gotten so far, the presentation was a hit. I could tell though that it was a good one by the simple fact that the crowd was totally engaged. There were many (really good) questions asked, and luckily for me, all that I could answer comfortablyJ.
The presentation was centered on using the DotNetNuke StarterKit, and how one can essentially build a DNN Module without writing a line of code – really!
We built a data-driven module, highlighted the “gotchas” and outlined the basics of Modules, UI, the Business Logic Layer (BLL), the Data Access Layer (DAL) and localization, all within the time allotted (about 1 hour 15minutes).
Thursday night felt really good. It finally felt like a User Group. Everyone was engage, everyone was excited. It felt like a community. Here is what some had to say about it:

Antonio's knowledge of DotNetNuke is very impressive and his ability to communicate complex programming information is exceptional. He is truly to be commended for his pioneering work with the Capital DotNetNuke Users Group.”
Don Bishop

Thanks for the great presentation on DNN. I am new to this powerful framework, but after your presentation, I think I am ready to get some hands-on time with it.
Hopefully I can share what I found with you all in the next couple of meetings.
Ying Jin

If you leave in the Washington Metro area (or even as far York, PA!) and are the DNN junky, then why not join us? Visit www.capitaldug.org and become a member, it’s free.
Until next time, Happy Nuking!
