Hej,
We are about to join 2 separate sites into one.
So today we have old.site.com and www.site.com.
Then end result should be that we stop old.site.com and all content from old.site.com will end up at www.site.com/OLD.
So we are moving from a sub domain to a child folder. Of course we will 301 the old site to the existing site.
We have 2 options:
1. Create a portal template from old.site.com and use that as a template and create a child portal called old under www.site.com.
As I see is this is the easiest way.
Downside: As we are using the community edition we won't be able to utilize DNNs search across the 2 portals. Solution for that might be to use a third party module. Another downside is the menu structure. Once we navigate down to the child portal we loose the menu items in the root portal.
2. Export and import all pages (we're talking hundreds of pages here) from the subdomain to the new child folder.
Question:
Is there an automated way to import a portal template into an existing portal instead of having to create a new child portal?
And while we're at it, anyone done similar like this before and what your comments are? Pros and cons.
Thanks in advance
Mikael
