I have a site running on DNN 5.6  that works just fine when using the secondary URL supplied by the hosting company, but I cannot get URLs to work using the domain name assigned to the site.  For example, if I type http://mysite.w07.winhost.com/Home/tabid/41/Default.aspx then the page loads fine.  If I create a portal alias called mydomain.com, recycle the app pool or modify/save web.config  to get the new alias to take effect and then enter the url http://mydomain.com/Home/tabid/41/Default.aspx, I get a 404 error "Resource can not be found.  If I just enter wwww.myhdomain.com in the browser, the site loads but redirects to http://mysite.w07.winhost.com/Home/tabid/41/Default.aspx.  So the domain name is working correctly to get to the site, but then DNN takes over and switches it to the default alias.  Then if I swap out the portion of the URL representing the default alias with the alias setup to match the domain name, it just goes to the 404 error.  The default URL is the only one that works, while all others give 404 errors.  I've read many threads on how to setup portal aliases and even a video, and I'm doing it exactly as told.  So what is up with the 404 errors?

From what I can tell doing text searches on the dotnetnuke site folder, none of the config files reference a hard coded url for the site. Thus the data in the PortalAlias and PortalSettings database tables are the only place these urls get set. I just don't understand how a site running on a shared server where the host has setup two secondary urls to use as an alternative to a domain name only works when referencing one of these urls and not the other. Both of them will link to my site, but only one of them is functional within the DNN pages. If I change the default alias by editing the PortalSettings table so that it uses the other url and then recycle the app pool, I get a "The page isn't redirecting properly" error. Switch it back again and then it works fine.   Makes no sense.
