Hi Scott,

The return from PayPal takes the user to a page saying they have paid, as you have seen. What I suspect is happening is that the PayPal IPN (Internet Payment Notification) is not reaching your server - which is what you would see with the 'not approved message'.

The IPN is the means by which PayPal tells your site that the payment has actually been made. This is an async process, that is only triggered when the payment actually goes through, and is not directly related to the users return to the website (which could be faked).

You need to make sure that the url you are using to access the website, is accessible by the PayPal servers (i.e. internet facing). The url you access the site on is passed to PayPal as part of the url the IPN access for the notification.

Have a look at that, then come back to ask more if needed.
