Hi,

I'm installing dnn on:
Windows server 2003
SqlServer 2005
IIS 6

Before the database string setting are specified I get a proper error about not being able to access the database however after supplying the database string a strange error occurs when accessing the Install.aspx

Error:
Access to the path 'C:\DotNetNuke_2\Website\web.config' is denied

I don't think this is a proper error message as it clearly picked up the new database string.

Here is the web.config db string config:
<connectionStrings>
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=websurfer;pwd=password;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

  </connectionStrings>

Does anyone know what the problem here is?

Thanks

During installation we update the web.config file to add some installation specific settings such as encryption keys. To allow this you need to grant read, write and modify permissions.

Hi Cathal,

Thanks for your help!

I had already given full perms to the aspnet user to both web directory and the directory above, and had also made sure that it was being recursed down.  So I didn't think it was a permissions issue.

However after your prompting I decided to try giving Everyone access to read/write/change on the web.config file. That resolved my issue.
