I'm trying to set up DNN Framework on my WinXP Prof. SP2 maschine, but facing this problem as many of begninners.

Here are the stpeps I have done so far:

1. Created a new application by using DotNetNuke_4.0.3_StarterKit.vsi
2. Configured ISS. Created a new virtual directory pointing to my created app, created in sptep 1
3. Configured SQLExpress DB as described here Link

If I try to install the app (CTRL+F5) from within  Visual Web Developer.

My web.config section for connection and app looks the following:

<connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
   connectionString="Server=ARTURO\SQLEXPRESS;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=artur_dnn;pwd=password;"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
   -->
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" />
    <add key="InstallTemplate" value="DotNetNuke.install.config" />
    <add key="AutoUpgrade" value="true" />
    <add key="InstallMemberRole" value="true" />
    <add key="ShowMissingKeys" value="false" />
    <add key="EnableWebFarmSupport" value="false" />
    <add key="EnableCachePersistence" value="false" />
    <add key="InstallationDate" value="5/25/2006" />
  </appSettings>

I get  the following errors displayed in the browser.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Ok, figured out that the problem was in my connection string. With this connection and appSettings the installation works.

<connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005-->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=ARTURO\SQLEXPRESS;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=***;pwd=***;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=ARTURO\SQLEXPRESS;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=***;pwd=***;"/>
