Hello,

I have an existing DotNetNuke site (version 4.09). I have successfully restored to a VM (Windows server 2008 and SQL 2k5) and tested OK.

When I migrate db and site to DiscountASP (still use SQL 2k5 and alternative URL), however, all menus (admin and other customized) are gone and all modules of home page are gone, showing DNN Portal Root.

The register/login links are still there. When I try to log on as existing user, I got error message saying "Login Failed, remember that Passwords are case sensitive". The strange thing is that I CAN register as a new user and the new account CAN be logged on successfully.

I am guessing the database should work in someway since the site allows new user to register.

I did a new install of DNN 5.5 to another subdirectory and it seems working fine.

Can anyone give me some clue for this please? My knowledge of using DiscountASP (control panel) is limited so maybe something could be easily fixed.

Thanks,

Joe

please make sure, the machinekey has not been modified in web.config file.

Thanks for reminding this Sebastian, but I am pretty sure Ithe site uese the original machine key. I have checked twice for those entries.

Since I can register new users, I guess the db connection works fine and the problem is at the site. I noticed all customized menus are invisible, not even the logo. I suspect if anything to do permission or domain name (currently I use alternative URL)...

The URL must be setup on the DNN Portal Aliases, there is a table on the database.  Basicly the symtome I read let me think there is any wrong with the maschine key, about if new registered users can login but old exists users are not, this happens with the password encryption that is related with the maschine key.

I totally agree with you Matthias that machine key maybe the cause for the failure of old user login. I will go back and check them again.

But how to explain the fact of missing customized logo and menu items? I can post some screen shots (not sure if secure to post my alternative URL) if I know how to upload file to this forum.;)

And this is the current site that should look like:
