When I try to add a sub portal to our site, I receive the following error.

Error parsing Portal TemplateObject reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.ModuleController.AddModule(ModuleInfo objModule) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.ModuleController.DeserializeModule(XmlNode nodeModule, XmlNode nodePane, Int32 PortalId, Int32 TabId, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Hashtable hModules) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.DeserializePanes(XmlNode nodePanes, Int32 PortalId, Int32 TabId, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Hashtable hModules) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Tabs.TabController.DeserializeTab(XmlNode nodeTab, TabInfo objTab, Hashtable hTabs, Int32 PortalId, Boolean IsAdminTemplate, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Hashtable hModules) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.ParseTab(XmlNode nodeTab, Int32 PortalId, Boolean IsAdminTemplate, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Hashtable& hModules, Hashtable& hTabs, Boolean IsNewPortal) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.ParseTabs(XmlNode nodeTabs, Int32 PortalId, Boolean IsAdminTemplate, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Boolean IsNewPortal) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.ParseTemplate(Int32 PortalId, String TemplatePath, String TemplateFile, Int32 AdministratorId, PortalTemplateModuleAction mergeTabs, Boolean IsNewPortal) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.CreatePortal(String PortalName, UserInfo objAdminUser, String Description, String KeyWords, String TemplatePath, String TemplateFile, String HomeDirectory, String PortalAlias, String ServerPath, String ChildPath, Boolean IsChildPortal)

Anyone see this before?

you didn't mention the version, which makes it difficult to give an answer. Theres a (very) old issue that affected early 4.x versions where the portal template was not known to the file API, to resolve this:
  1. Delete the child portal under host -> portal settings
  2. Delete the child folder (usually the name of the child portal)
  3. Synchronize the files under Host -> File Manager (be sure to check recursive),
  4. Synchronize the files under Admin -> File Manager (be sure to check recursive)
  5. Restart Application under Host -> Site Settings (very bottom)

Thank you for your reply cathal connolly.

I apologize for not being more descriptive.  We are using DNN 5.4.4.
I tried the steps suggested but get the same results.

Thanks.

I've had somewhat similar issues with various portal configurations. I remember seeing something like this when I was working on a site with hosting from godaddy. Who is your hosting plan with and what plan do you have with them? Do you have access to the root (dedicated server) or are you on a shared file system?
