Hi Vikas,

This error is related to an access right problem to you web.config file. To encrypt data the Store module need a read acces to the web.config file. Please check your acces right for the dnn folder. Another cause coud generate this kind of error if your web.config file do NOT contains a machinekey section like this one:

<machineKey validationKey="XXXXXXXXXXXX" decryptionKey="XXXXXXXXXXXXXX" decryption="3DES" validation="SHA1"/>

We (team members) are Humans offering their knowledge, their work and their spare time FOR FREE to benefit the community. It would be so particularly appreciated that your messages begin with "Hello" and end with "Thank you" or any other form of politeness. Ask yourself what your reaction would be, if you were approached by me (a total stranger) on the street to ask you something without saying "Hello" nor "Thank you"? After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.

Hi Giles, Did 2.01.00 not need to encrypt data - that side of things was working great until the 2.01.30 upgrade?! Several of these sites have been running for long periods, entirely trouble free as far as the store is concerned. Something has changed and its not the permissions etc. I did check those points. Its running in a medium trust environment and read permissions are OK. >>The user under which your website runs has read, write and append permissions to everything within your web directory (/your_domain.ext) If your web.config file is held within this directory then it has read access So access to web.config is OK. If im not wrong it was also needed RW to web.config for the install in the first place and didnt need adjusting since. Also, in web config, I do have this tag Im getting the same result with the existing sites as I am with a completely fresh install here. Would re-loading 2.01.00 and showing it doesnt have this issue , prove anything? Any ideas about how we can get to the bottom of it - we're long into downtime here now so its getting pretty crippling. BR, Vik

Hi Vikas,

Version previous than 02.01.31 do not use cookie encryption. It's very strange, the only case to receive this error is when your browser cache contains a 'clear' cookie for this web site.

Because this was required by the core team after a security review, I added the cookie encryption in the version 02.01.31. The new version 02.01.32 have a new setting to disable the cookie encryption. There is no real risk about the cookie content, only the current order number and cairt GUID are stored in cookie.
