I did some searching on the sqldataprovider errors and those seem to be just sql query problems that I can fix.  Found some info on those already.  I saw a few posts that mentioned the Application Upgrade to 5.00.00 error, but they didn't have a solution.  Things seemed to work ok for the users so they went on with things.

The error that is of concern is the Updating Config Files 5.01.00.  This error doesn't get written to a log so I can't see what the problem is.  Is there anywhere I can look to see what that is actually trying to do so I can go through the steps and see what's breaking?  It seems this error is causing me to not see any permissions when i edit modules/pages.  The values are in the db, but I can't see what they are or update them via the website.

On your web.config file check that your object qualifier and database owner is the same as your old web.config file

  <data defaultProvider="SqlDataProvider">
      <providers>
        <clear />
        <add name="SqlDataProvider" type="DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider" connectionStringName="SiteSqlServer" upgradeConnectionString="" providerPath="~\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\" objectQualifier="dnn" databaseOwner="dbo" />
      </providers>

Those are both the same as they were before.

I did a diff of my web.config and the release.config.  I noticed my system.webserver block was at the bottom and the release.config had it at the top.  I think that is why the errors occured.  I moved mine to the top and things are now working fine.  Don't know why, but they are working so I'm done searching.  Thanks to those who offered advice, I appreciate the help.
