I'd like to make a request to add a permissions option for creating new events.  Unless there is some other way that I have not discovered yet, it seems that the only way I can designate "who" is allowed to create an event is by giving them "event moderator" rights to the module instance.

Hi Dan,

Make the users you want to be able to add events, module editor, and they will be able to add events subject to moderation, if moderation is enabled.

So if I want the general public to be allowed to submit events (pending moderation), I have to give them rights to edit/configure the events module?  Sorry if this sounds harsh, but that does not sound like a good security practice.

Hi Dan,

Giving someone edit permissions on the module does now allow them 'edit' or configure the module, it allows them to add events only. It is a common misconception that this is how dnn permissions work. For someone to get into the module settings of a module (where the events module is configured), they must be a page editor, not a module editor.

That said there was a bug in version 5.1.something I think, where edit permissions did give you access to the module settings. This is no longer true in 5.1.4.

Cheers
Roger

Thanks for the explanation, it definitely sounds like a common misperception... Heck, I've been using DNN for years and didn't even know that!  *grin*

Speaking of which, are there any manuals for this module that explains how to do things like this?
