Hi all,

I would like to upgrade DDN from 4.4.1 to higher version. I noticed that only 5.1.2 and 4.9.5 are aviliable to download. But what is the different between them.

Is 4.9.5 too out-date? Is 5.1.2 not stable and containing many bugs? Can anyone tell me which is better? Is there any document to compare them? Thanks!

you may obtain all previous DNN distribution packages at dotnetnuke.codeplex.com by selecting the appropriate version number in the box on the right hand side.

DNN 4.9.5 is the most stable version atm, DNN 5 adds a couple of changes and a few new features, for details please see associated release notes.

If you can successfully upgrade a 4.x site to DNN 5.x I'll be impressed ;)  - I don't know many people who have but there are a large number of failed upgrades on the forums. So, for new installs - go for 5.x. For upgrades, go to 4.9.5 UNLESS you don't mind your site being down and have time to lose and hair to rip out - then try a 5.x upgrade.

I am REALLY hoping the core team are going to focus on some of these upgrade issues in 5.2 but we'll have to wait and see...

I have upgraded atleast 4 sites from 4.9.5 to 5.1.2 and from there to 5.1.4 without any problems. The fifth site which I upgraded yesterday has some problems with the Google Analytics module but seems to work fine otherwise..

But it is important ( by my own experience ) that the upgrade to 5.1.2 goes from 4.9.5 and not from any earlier versions.

I have not tried to go from 4.9.5 to 5.1.4 directly since I know that it works when I do in steps from 4.9.5 >5.1.2 > 5.1.3 > 5.1.4.

My 4.9.4 to 5.1.2 failed multiple times unfortuantely..
