Hello,

I want to load a connection string form an external xml file, not the web config file.

i changed the library , in Common-> Utilities-> Config.vb the function GetConnectionString to load the connection that i want so i delete them from the webconfig.

All seems to wrok fine.

The problem is when i try to loggin the site there is an exception because still try to load a connection string from the appsettings tag.

I try to find where loads the appsettings tag in the library and change it to load from my external file but i cant find it.

The version that i use is 5.0.0 and 4.8.4.3

Does anyone know how to load connections strings from an external file?

Moving the connection string from the web.config to another location for general configuration is going to be an incredibly risky operation.  As modules, skin objects, and any other extension that you install accesses the connection string, and some might go straight to the web.config file.

I would question the necessity for this on a global basis.

modifying DNN core is a risk, which should be avoided, because not all modules may use the same API and you need to redo the modification for all upgrades.
