I installed the Map module yesterday and I'm having problems with Geo Coding.

  • "Execute Geo Coding" doesn't to appear to do anything. Although manually entering the latitude and longitude works. I've tried repeated attempts on a single address as well as waiting overnight.
  • Any address entered into "Find Address" returns "Sorry, we are unable to locate a point for that address. Please try again." error.
  • I've tried various configurations of option settings in the Geo Locator tab (including all selected) and none seem to make any difference.
  • I've tried all 4 of the Visual Provider  types.
  • BTW - I'm using "Standard Data Points" for the Data Source Settings.
  • Using the "Google.Directory" Visual Provider, entering an address in the search box does result in the map centering on that location, but no marker is generated.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Jim

As one more test I installed the map module on another domain that I manage. I got the exact same results. So, I would assume that either I am using the module incorrectly; there's a problem with using geocoding in conjunction with Godaddy shared hosting plans; or geocoding in the module doesn't work.

Since no one has replied to my original message, I can also assume that besides myself and one other user (who posted a couple of months ago with no responses) that no one else is having the same issues(s). For the rest of the DNN community the module works.

But even if that's the case, could someone at least reply and mention that on their installation the geocoding is working?

Thanks.

Jim

I also seem to be having an issue with GeoCoding. I also have a domain hosted with GoDaddy. I am running the latest version of the Map module (v1.0.9) on DNN v5.1.2

Geocoding is not working on godaddy but is working on the instance of dnn I have installed on localhost.

I had a similar problem: unfortunately the Private Sub _Start within Public Class AutoGeoCoder catched a couple of exceptions without logging what was going wrong :( ...

I patched Service.vb a little and discovered that the module complained about two missing stored procedures: Map_GetPoints_ByProviderName_NoGeo and Map_UpdatePoint_Location.

It looks like the module doesn't play well with the object qualifier: in fact, both the procedures were in my db, but their names were prefixed by "DNN_".

The quick-and-dirty way worked for me: I created two identical procedures without prefix and now Geo Coding works fine.
