A few days ago I had DotNetNuke installed so that I was able to see the default page with the login-option (among other things) in the browser. But there seemed to be a problem loging in which I tried to solve. Apparently I wasn't using the database correctly.

Now I'm using "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express" on top of IIS7. But the problems kept coming which is why I desided to do a completelly new install of DotNetNuke (I wasn't able to login though that I tried both the login-settings from the install of DotNetNuke and the login-settings from the database in "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express"). So I tried "http://localhost/DotNetNuke/Install/InstallWizard.aspx" and modified the Debug="true" in the config.web. WHen I try to access the InstallWizard.aspx I get a long error. This is the beginning of it:

"

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed.

Source Error:

Line 98: hypReturn.Text = "<img src=""" + ApplicationPath + "/images/lt.gif"" border=""0"" /> " + strLocalizedMessage Line 99:
"

Are anybody able to provide some help to me? It would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you very much in advance!

In IIS web site configuration, make sure NOT to enable impersonation in ASP.Net authentication settings.

In SQL Server, create a blank database and grant permission to the appropriate user (either use integrated security and grant permission to the ASP.Net account, "Network Service" by default, OR create a SQL server user and use user name and password). When setting up DNN use "SQL Server" database instead of Express.

Thank you for the reply.

But I still have problems, though.

Where do I EXACTLY check whether "impersonation" is set? I found it several months ago, but I don't remember the specific place. I've been searching in "IIS7 Manager" both on the virtual directory and the application directory, but I can't find anything ?

In the "When setting up DNN use 'SQL Server' database instead of Express" I guess I have to choose "custom" during the install of DNN. And aparently I cannot gain any kind of access to DNN trough any browser right now so I planned to begin a completely new install of DNN in another directory in the "inetpub/root". Does this sound like the correct solution?

IIS 7 web site configuration has an icon for ASP.Net authentication. check whether "impersonalization" is listed and enabled.

you may specify the connection string directly inside the web.config file or (better) start from scratch and use the wizard customization.

I searched the web for a "how-to" on the subject of setting the "impersonalization". All I found was that I should right-click either "websites" or "THE website" and choose "properties". On the next windows the options should appear. But I haven't got any option of choosing "properties" either places so I guess I'm not using "impersonalization". But the way a lot of websites gave me the impression that if I wanted to use "impersonalization" I had to write for instance "name='abc'" or "impersonate='abc'" in the top line of the aspx-page. But that isn't an option in this situation.

I guess I should delete my installation of DNN under IIS and retry an installlation and then be sure to use the wizard-customization?
