I first chose DNN in late 2006 because it had the features I wanted.  In particular I was drawn to the fact people could register and I could email them.  So I chose a host where it would be auto-installed (webhost4life) and I pressed the button.

Hey presto, instant website that had members joining.

I then joined up wiht AWeber .. and 3 years on I've come back to this problem several times without a resolution ... how do I get my DNN members to be added to my AWeber list.

I kept trying, failing to understand and leaving it again.

So, here I am, nearly 3 years on and I have 20,000 DNN members and 0 on AWeber.  I did once manage to set up the AWeber form and get it onto my site.  The AWeber interface says it's been displayed over 12,000 times but with 0 signups.  I've obviously removed that at some stage (as I decided it clearly wasn't working) as I just signed up to my own site and didn't get offered the Aweber sign up at all.

A couple of weeks ago I found a Bulk Emaler (interactivewebs.com.au)  - they seemed to have a great email module for DNN that meant I could email people, so I downloaded the trial version, installed it - set it off emailing my 18,100 members (list was de-duped).  But it was only sending at 150/hour.  After 24 hours it was only at about 3000 emails into the list and I contacted my host to see if there was a limitation.  Woke up this morning to check the progress and it had finished sending ... except it had only sent out 3150 emails.  It looks like the host stopped it completely.  My host say I have to use their mailing list software in my admin panel of the server.  Now, I don't see how that will work as I want to include the member's username inside my emails, and there's a huge extra cost to using their Email List if I h ave over 2000 members and want to send more than 10,000 emails/.month.

So I logged back onto Aweber to try to get this sorted - and I have googled. And I can't find a solution.

The Problem Is:

How can I get new signups to my DNN website to automatically be included in my Aweber list?

How can I get existing signups into my Aweber list?

Is there a DNN module available to buy (affordably) that WILL email all users and NOT run into my host problem of 150/hour?

I hope somebody can help, this is driving me nuts.

For the record: I am not a techie, which is a major problem with doing anything with DNN.  While I have worked in IT for over 20 years, from helpdesk through to project manager, I am not a Windows Server techie, I am not a programmer, I don't know ASP.NET.  I need a solution that just installs and works.

Thank you.

Write a custom application or have one written for you.

Same answer.  Though you may be able to export/import, it's not going to be an off-the-shelf item.

That's a setting for your host, nothing you can change in any code.

Your actual problem is you are looking for a solution for your specific needs.  And DNN really isn't configured this way without custom programming.  You might look at the Onyaktech modules for possible help, and you may want to consider choosing a host that allows mass email broadcasts.

Everything you have brought up has a solution, some of the issues have more than one.  Off the cuff, I don't think you are likely to get a silver bullet solution/answers in these forums.  The bigger picture is that you need some additional expertise in the technologies you are using.  If your hosting provider is only stating their rules and policies in response to your questions and issues, then you should probably consider a managed hosting provider - or possible a smaller, regional/local provider with consultants/staff capable of providing assistance in the areas you need.

Without knowing more about your site, my initial/brief guess at an answer is a) without AWeber; switch hosting providers and make sure you have the ability to send thousands of emails, maybe switch to a VPS and run your own combined web and mail server (e.g. SmarterMail), etc.  b) with AWeber; automatic add at point of signup = module (Data Springs' Dynamic Registration or Login comes to mind, but depends on availability of API on AWeber) or custom app, existing users imported = custom SQL export to Excel, then import to AWeber, DNN native emailing module = yes, but it doesn't sound like you can get around your hosting providers restraints.

If you want to contact me directly and provide more details about your situation, costs, etc - I might be able to better steer you towards a solution.  But lets see what other answers appear here first.  Cheers - Jeremy

Thanks for the replies... so the bottom line is: I need to get involved with stuff I was trying to avoid and I need to fork out more money.

I picked DNN because it had features I wanted, I never expected it to become such a pain in the bum for me that it has and now I am locked into it because this one site brings me in a very meagre and frugal lifestyle, so forking out any major investment in things I don't really understand is a huge leap of faith.

At the moment, the best offer I have (no prices yet) is to move hosts to the company that wrote the great email software I found; they'd not cap the emails being sent out.

I need to either make a decision, or leave it another 3 years ... which isn't really facing up to facts.  The trouble came when people actually visited my site and registered - I kind of didn't expect that... then I didn't expect that emailing them would prove such a hard thing to do.  I picked DNN because it seemed to offer me registration/emailing, so I shot myself in the foot really.

I feel DNN is more of a developer solution - and when I installed it (host/one press install), I thought I was opting in for a user-managed system, but it's turned out to really be beyond my knowledge/desire to learn.  Kind of between a rock and a hard place all round.

I do need to get this sorted out, but I don't want to walk into another wall of problems... e.g. if I move hosts and one morning I find the site is down, the seemingl perfect host doesn't actually have instant Live Help ... and they are on another continent so the times I will realise there's a problem they will be asleep.

Oh decisions, decisions ...

Thanks guys!

I'm not familar with AWeber. Do they give you a way to import from say CSV or excel file? If so you could use a module like the core Reports module and copy paste the output into excel and upload it.
