I am setting up a store for a client of mine using the Store Module. One thing I don't understand is the shipping part. If I specify box dimensions and package weight, then set a standard price for it, I will probably end up losing money. For example. If I am in Florida and ship the same product to somewhere else in Florida, then ship one to California, i will lose money because I have a set shipping price. Does anyone know a way around this? How is everyone else setting up shipping costs and calculations?

Hi,

The Store module is provider based. This allow developers to create provider for Gateway, Shipping and Tax with specific rules. Currently the default shipping provider use only the product weight to compute the total shipping amount. In your case, a shipping provider based on shipping address and weight is required. I have no plan today for this kind of provider, but it could be added in a future version.

So does it calculate shipping based on the dimensions and weight you provided, and the address of the customer? If it calculates it using their address, why do I have to specify a price after entering dimensions and weight?

Hi,

No, the default shipping provider compute the shipping price on the weight only!
