Hello. I am currently running DotNetNuke 4.9. I would like to use the News Feeds 4.00.01 Module on my Homepage to display the latest posts from my blogs (several private blogs from individual bloggers). In the blog module settings, I have checked both syndicate and syndicate independently. Following suggestings in other posts on this forum, I have copied the blog list feed url to add into the news feed module. An example of the a copied link would be:

https://localhost/ForumsDotNetNuke/Default.aspx?tabid=86&rssid=1 (this is a development machine).

I am able to add the link, but when the viewer tried to display the link, I get the following error message:

Feed 'https://localhost/ForumsDotNetNuke/Default.aspx?tabid=86&rssid=1' could not be loaded. Error: Download error

I realize that this is the blogs forum and not the news reader forum, but I am able to view the blog feed in the Firefox rss internal reader, and am also able to view external rss feeds in the feed reader. I think the news feed module is looking for an xml file.

Do I need to do something with the blog feed url to allow the news feed module to read its rss feed? I've read through a lot of posts and can find no clearcut answer to this question. Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Furmanek,

I am using the Newsfeed module v 04.00.01 on my live website with no problem using the settings you have used. Now I see you are using a secured connection (https), do you need to provide a userid/password to access your content? Check also that in the Newsfeed module settings the link type is set to URL, and not to File.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

The dotnetnuke site will only be available to users who are already logged in to our site. Once they have done this, they will have access to the dotnetnuke content (blogs / forums, announcements, events, etc.) They do not have to log in further to view this information.

It seems that the News Feed module is looking for a valid xml file to parse, yet the blog module rss feeds (as well as the forum feeds) links provide only a URL. Is the New Feed module able to get a valid xml file / feed to use?

Finally, I can find no option in the News Feed module that would allow me to set the link type to URL. In the New Module settings, I see entries for: default cache time; retry times; retry timeout; xsl transformation; items to show; show item details; show item date; use ajax.

Since you are able to use this with my settings, I am obviously not setting something correctly. Could you check your settings again and suggest where I might set the News module link type to URL?

Again, many thanks.

Hi Furmanek,

although I am not a NewsFeed module expert, I can post my live settings that work perfectly:

XML Data Source Settings

In this section, you can define the source of your XML data. It can be provided as a local file or be queried via http using dynamic querystrings.

Link Type:
Location: ( Enter The Address Of The Link )

Select An Existing URL

  Querystring Parameters
  Querystring URL Encoding
  Security Options (optional)

  XSL Transformation Settings

In this section, you can define the source of your XSL Stylesheet. You can also define additional parameters to provide your script with context information.

Link Type:
File Location:

File Name:

Upload New File

  XSL Parameters

  Advanced Options

By default the XML Module will render the output (as HTML) inside the module. However it is also possible to create downloads.

The Output of the XML Module is not searchable in DotNetNuke Search by default. However, if you want to allow searching and your setup doesn't depend on dynamic parameters you can switch it on.

Clear Search Index

For some use cases it is nescessary that the module only runs if the request contains a defined querystring parameter/ value pair.

  Clear/ Disable

The blog.xsl transformation file is home made, if you want it, just provide me your email address and I will be sending it to you.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa
