Craig,

Thanks for the above. In the short term this is the plan: the 04.00.01 is in the release tracker (I hope it'll get through before OpenForce EU). For the next phase I will communicate with you and others through this forum when versions are available for testing. If you like to implement proper unit testing to the module then your role could be more formal and you could have access to the vault. If you just want to keep a finger on the wrist then I'm happy with that, too. Whatever you can bring I'm happy with it. The goal is to get some peace around this module so we can sit down and discuss the major painpoints. Then I can implement the necessary changes.

Cheers,

Peter

As I reported in the 'broken feed thread' earlier.  I had some issues with Atom feeds not downloading, even with the new 'beta' version of the News module.  Since, I didn't have source for it, I went back to make corrections using the v4.0.0 source, making the xsd changes needed, and corrected the xsl file in the \RssToolKit\Resources folder, AtomToRss20.xsl.

I found an issue with the AtomToRss20.xsl file in the /RssToolkit/Resources folder.  The date was not being converted correctly, which resulted in the feed failing to load.  I rebuilt the project, and replaced the resulting dll in the bin folder of my dnn v04.09.00 site.  I added the Atom feeds that were giving me trouble, and found them to download and display without issue.

The troublesome feeds are documented in the 'broken feeds' post, if you care to try them with the 'beta' version.  If you find they don't work for you, you'll need the new AtomToRss20.xsl file with the corrections.  Let me know how it goes for others with these or any Atom type feeds. I'll prolly go ahead and review the other xsl files in that folder to see if they have the same error.

I'm moving on to test OPML.

BTW - I really will help out, with what I can, as I've always done.  Unfortunately, my workstation setup at home is very limiting.  I desperately need upgrades, but really can't afford to do it.  So, I can't make mods to the project, other than modify the xsl and xsd files, at this point using vwd2008.  I'm still trying to understand why, but my machine at home is very sloooow, and overtasked.  My workstation at the job is better, but until I can figure out how to make code mods to the project using vwd2008, I'm kinda in the same boat.

I can continue to test, and provide what help I can...

Also, never thought the code 's***s'.  I understand the process, and really think you did a tremendous job with this revision.  It's the fine points, testing and the like that really is difficult to accomplish without resources, and planning.  I'm hoping to help out with those pieces more as time goes on.  So, keep up the great work Peter, it is appreciated.

Oops, my bad...

I actually found a line in the AtomToRss20.xsl that seemed to be the culprit, moreso than the date cnversion, although there is an issue with that too.  The basic reason why it wouldn't load was becasue the conversion xsl has an invalid directive:

<xml:output mode="xml" encoding="UTF-8"/>

This was probably throwing an error during the attempt to convert it or download it.  I put the xsl into my xsl editor, with an input Atom xml file, and it choked, with an error: The namespace prefix is not allowed to start with the reserved string "xml".  So, I replaced that line with this one:

<xsl:output method="xml" encoding="UTF-8"/>

Then, it began to work.  The date conversion routine had issues too, with not producing a proper formatted date.  I corrected that issue, too.

iWonder

I have not used VWD2008, however I understand that the ability to compile to Bin is not awvailable in that version??

If you need to test a compiled version of your changes let me know and I could compile and send the bin to you for testing....

Cheers

Craig
