Ok I use default for test (same result with other but just did a fast test).

Multiple instance .... more then on module on same page.

Parameters ..... Ajax or not ajax. If I use Ajax it does not work. If I dont use ajax the loadtime is terrrible.

Cach time I cant figure out how these parameters works seems to bee overwritten in all cases.

The problems occure when loading the first time, and after the timelimit in cash is due and when clearing the cash.

I get the java error in IE  with ajax and one or more modules on the page.

Could you Craig give me two feeds for me to test to see if its my feed that are the reason?  I doubt it I have tested a few but just to exlude the feeds.

Here are a couple of feeds that work fine:

http://feeds.news.com.au/public/rss/2.0/news_mostpopular_world_407.xml

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/DesktopModules/Forum/Forum_Rss.aspx?forumid=48&tabid=795&mid=2108

However,  I do not believe that the problems that you are having are related to the feeds.

I have not exibited any Ajax related issues, can you confirm if Ajax works for other modules on your DNN installation?

In my case I have tested both DNN 4.09 and Newsfeeds 4.00.01 on the following Operationing systems:

Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2008

Windows XP

Windows Vista

Web Servers have included Cassini, IIS 6 and IIS 7

In all cases AJAX has been installed to the latest version.

I have tried to test the module with AJAX disabled and the results in our local test environment are about the same time to fetch the feeds, the main difference with Ajax disabled is that the whole page is impacted while waiting for the feeds, which while appears to take longer , my test with a stop watch show in our case a minimal difference in time.

I am at a lost as to why your cache settings are overwritten, this is not the case on my installations, I tend to think that something is not right with your installation but this is difficult to diagnose with the information that we know so far. To be honest, I have tested the cache times and did not have any issues, however normally I have left the cache settings at their defaults. To test I have just used the clear cache menu option.

Have you noticed any other strange issues with DotNetNuke or other modules?

Craig

Peter some answers and updates

Yes I use 4.0.1 thanks for asking The js error is in an older post. Yes I will try to write an XSL to get the proper date. I had hoped that it would work like the old module and other rss readers.

Regarding the js error I have found how to remove it. If I remove from my web.config the line  xhtmlConformance mode="Legacy" I cant recall why I put it there, mybee an other module needed it I will try to find out. I have never get this js error before.

I have done a new test and it looks like all feeds are loading better now. However the load time are extrely long It takes abou 5 minuts to load the first time. Compared to the old one that took seconds. I have not yet found out how the cach parameters interact. I will continue the tests.

Thanks Craig, no difference with your feeds.

I have not found any strange issues with ajax or DNN before.

Jan, from your previous post it looks like you are making some progress.

I think that if you need the performance for a production site for your RSS Feeds then you should consider reinstalling the previous version until version 4.00.00 can offer the improvements that you are requiring.

It is my opinion that this thread and others have clearly expressed all the current concerns in this new version and that Peter is working at addressing these concerns. For example I have not released this version to clients at this time, they continue to use the previous version or have purchased thrid party RSS modules, My discussion in this forum is simply to report our findings and to assist with this iteration of the module, therefore in our case we do not need an urgent solution. What I can say is that this next generation of the NewsFeeds module is moving in the right direction and I'm sure that Peter is dedicated to great things for this module. Having said that, we have found that 4.00.01 is behaving better that the previous one (except the lag when updating the cache)

In summary,

Revert bsck to the previous version if you have some urgency for a production site.

Peter has responded very fast to issues raised since this modules release, and has made a beta available prior to the next release.

I don't understand your particular issues, my typical pre-production testing involves testing in a fresh install of DNN, this way I can eliminate any third party module interference. When I move (in testing environment) to a copy of a production site then I can normally be happy that the module works in a clean environment and any issue must then relate to some difference in the production version. My troubleshooting is therefore narrowed down somewhat.

cheers

Craig

Craig, I think most user of the module needs the performance very few visitors like to wait for minutes. I just test out new modules for my customers, in this case I added the module to my own site as well. I usually do this to find depending problems.

For the moment I have installed the module on 4 different test installations. I blame myself for not see that the js error was just on one installation.

I think Peter doinig a good job but still I cant undertand that the release tracker process didnt found the problems.

As Peter so fast "relesed" a test version I liked to help to test it. But still I think this test version is below release qualty. If I get the time maybee I will take the old module and recompile it and rename db to have an option.
