Hi guys,

I am building a portal for a client,

but he does not want SQL server. He wants Oracle.

How much task is involved for building an Oracle data provider for the Store module?

thanks

Hi,

First you have to buy the Oracle Data Provider for DotNetNuke at AcuitiDP. Then, rewrite / adapt all *.SqlDataProvider files for conform to Oracle database. This files are used for create tables and stored procedures.

If your client do not want to use SQL Server because the licence price, remember that DotNetNuke can use the free version SQL Server 2005 Express.

Thanks Gilles,

my client is an old-fashioned IT user who believes that Oracle is better in everything...

If I rewrite all SQLdataprovider files to Oracledataprovider will the existing dll files still work?

Don't I have to recompile them?

One last question:

how does SQL Server 2005 Express scale?

How many users can it serve?

thanks

Sakis - the store module will work with Oracle very shortly (as are most if not all of the other modules). When you purchase the oracle data provider (AcuitiDP), the idea there is that you get all the core modules too that are released with DotNetNuke and since the store is one of the core modules, this would be included too.
I have been swamped recently with the conversions for Forums module and am planning to address the store module next to get it working with Oracle.

Gilles - sometimes it's not question of free SQL Server 2005 Express. I have a lot of clients that use the Oracle version because they use Oracle as their database (for other applications) and have an Oracle DBA in house. Some of the larger clients are not allowed to introduce a different database platform and such using SQL Server 2005 (whether free or not) is not an option.  Wanted to make sure you're aware of this in case you weren't.

Thanks

If not than I must find another solution.
