We previously used the google analytics module for DNN, but two situations came up where we would like to code the javascript tracking codes they supplied directly to the skin

  • google recently changed their tracking codes and we didn't want to wait for new modules to come out
  • some DNN developers we know suggested that coding it into the skin would improve performance on large sites with heavy traffic by reducing calls to... (blah blah)

We need to have the analytics tracking codes as close to the closing body tag as possible, so what file would we need to edit to place the javascript snippet from google analytics directly into the skin (footer)?

Have considerable experience editing code, but little exp w/ DNN - so be gentle ;)

cheers,

You would need to edit the .ascx for your skin.  You can find these in the /Portals/_default/skins/ folder, or the specific folder for your portal.

Recommended for experts only... but you could simply add this code in the default.aspx code as well; just adding before the </body> tag. (All sub-portals if any, will automatically count towards your analytics as well - regardless of the skin they use)

Also, make sure you dont forget to add this everytime you upgrade.
