How long are products listed as "New Products"?  As of now it is a complete duplication of the main catalog and doesn't look right as such.  Is it possible to override this and manually remove products from the "New Products" listing?

Hi,

The new products list get the product by created date descending. Because you just create your catalog now, they are duplicates, it's logical no? If you want manualy select products to display, use "Featured Products" instead. In this case, you have to check the setting "Featured" inside each product to display.

Yes that is logical.  But how long are products considered new before they drop out?  A month?  It would be nice if that was configurable in a future release.

I tried toggling "featured" on/off and saw no difference in how products are listed.  I assume that is because the products are still considered new.

Lastly the products are not "new", I didn't just create the catalog.  They were created with the 01.00 version months ago.  Only the upgrade to 02.01 is new.  It appears the date stamp of a product was implemented or updated in the upgrade? Thus anyone who upgrades to 02.01 will have the entire catalog considered new correct?  Customers are seeing things listed as "new"  when they know its now new at all.

Thanks for the quick reply Gilles.

Hi,

May be I was not "crystal clear" enough.

The New Product list is build by DateCreated in descending order, then the n first products in the list are displayed. n is computed by the number of columns and row defined in the Catalog module settings section New Product Settings. By default, it's 2 rows by 10 columns. Then the 20 "last" products created are displayed even if they was created ten years ago. When you updade the module the dates are not changed. The section New Products is usefull when a store add new products on a regular basis like every week. In your case it will be better to disable this section (Catalog Settings, General Settings, Show New Products). Use instead Featured Products (Catalog Settings, General Settings, Show Featured Products) and check the box "Featured" for products you want to be displayed in the list.
