Ok first I am new to DNN so please bare with me.  Second I am running this on Windows XP SP2 with ASP.NET 2.0 and IIS6.  The SQL Server I am running the DB from is on another PC on the network.  I used the setup routine specified in the book : Professional DotNetNuke APS.NET Portals.  I went line by line word by word using the same name for the db and the userid.  Only thing I did was change the password.  Please review the following:

Error:

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

Could not find file 'C:\Website\DotNetNuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\DotNetNuke_template.mdf'.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'C:\Website\DotNetNuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\DotNetNuke_template.mdf'.

Here is my Web.config

<connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=\ba-database-nt;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=DotNetNukeUsers;pwd=NUKE3M4M3;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
   -->
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;"/>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=\ba-database-nt;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=DotNetNukeUsers;pwd=NUKE3M4M3;"/>
    -->
    <add key="InstallTemplate" value="DotNetNuke.install.config" />
    <!--  Alternative Install Templates (included in package)
    <add key="InstallTemplate" value="Club.install.config" />
    <add key="InstallTemplate" value="Personal.install.config" />
    <add key="InstallTemplate" value="SmallBusiness.install.config" />
    -->
    <add key="AutoUpgrade" value="true" />
    <add key="InstallMemberRole" value="true" />
    <add key="ShowMissingKeys" value="false" />
    <add key="EnableWebFarmSupport" value="false" />
    <add key="EnableCachePersistence" value="false"/>
  </appSettings>

I am at a loss as to what the problem is.  I realize that the mdf file is a SQL2005 file but I do not have SQLExpress installed nor do I want to use it.

I invite comments and critique from anyone who is willing to help thanks!

Your web.config is setup to use SQL Server 2005 Express.

Take note of the placement of the comment indicators <!--  and -->

The connection string for SQL Server 2005 Express is active and the connection string for SQL Server 2000/2005 is commented out in your web.config.

Just switch your comment characters around
