Hi, I was also encount this problem just like you describing. After I checked my OS Application events checker, I found maybe my DB setting have something wrong. So I check the microsoft MSDN online, and finished the setting according by "visiting SQL Server by local identity user", I succeed. :).  the setting step are:

1.open start-> Microsoft SQL Server 2005-> SQLServer Management Studio(SQL Server2005)
2.Open the spot of DotNetNuke database you created just now
3.Open Security -> Users, and right-click Users Create a new user, and must input the "login name" is "your computer name\ASPNET"(windows 2000, xp) or "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE"(windows 2003), and the user name, I named DNNUser, you can pick another name. then press confirm create successful.

by the way, I use the integrated windows authentication way to visiting my DB. so if you adopt my way to exploring your DotNetNuke website, you should chang the web.config file the connectionstring and appsetting items, you should change "uid=;pwd=" to "integrated security=true". And finished you file permission according by installing guide, I think you could be end the problem.

Hope you success. :)

I checked the installation guid but, stil encountered problems. I downloaded the Install package and created the Virtual Directory in IIS, but i stil can't open the DNN Framework... Please assist urgently...

a few minutes ago , I reply one, but now I  can't see nothing.(Dont know why) So I reply another times.

I had the same encountered problem as you. but now I succeed because I add one more setting  about SQLServer2005 which the installing guide never mentioned it. I add a new user of the DotNetNuke DB, and named the "Login name" is "your computer name\ASPNET"(windows 2000,xp) or "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE"(Windows2003).
Because I choose to use integrated windows authentication way to visiting the DB, so I changed the web.config "connection string" and "appsetting"  from "uid=;pws=" to "integrated security=true". Then I ensure my file permission was ok, I Open http://localhost/DotNetNuke/Install/install.aspx, that's ok, everything goes former.

by the way, you can reference the microsoft MSDN online about "visiting SQL Server by local user indentity" article.

Well, althought I didn't meet any errors again, still I can remind you go to check your "Events checker" try to find some clues. you can go "Start -> setting -> Control panel -> administration tools -> Events checker", open it and expand the "Application", maybe you can see some help
I installed DNN4.5.5-source
In addition, because I using Chinese version windows2003, so I am not sure if  the above English names of windows correlative really are, so you need to find close name replacing them.
Good luck!
