I was wondering how the design for his was planned and how flexible it would be. For example, it would be nice to have a separate E-Commerce Interface external to the store that could be expanded independently in the future to include future payment gateways and any DNN functionality that needs e-commerce such as subscriptions.

So I would want to use this e-commerce package along with an advanced banner ad module and a custom calendar\events payment module and a subscriptions module. And it could event have common functionality such as receipts, transaction logs, error logs, etc.....

Then the DNN store could be designed to integrate with this 3rd party ecommerce module rather than one integrated within the store. Thoughts?

The payment gateways are provider based, which means they implement an interface designed for the store. So, there is some level of separation but it might not be enough to use them independent of the store. However, we do plan to include support for virtual products (downloads, subscriptions) in the future.
