Many enhancements might be brought to Store in the future, but we must not loose focus from the original goal of this module. Store was mainly intended to be, - like DotNetNuke itself - a platform rather than a turnkey solution.

Two significant aspects of this goal are the templates, and the provider model.

This module should remain a solid base that any developper can build on, to extend functionnalities. It will not try to compete with dedicated online store solutions.

I totally agree. Ecommerce system is so complex. It may be as complex as DNN core itself, if not more. To implement a good ecommerce system needs dedicated resources which we lacks at the moment and takes much longer than most of us think.  Trying to implement everything people ask most likely ends up a big mess.   Having an extensible architecture to allow community extend is a wise strategy.

Lets take Rainbowl and DNN as an example, bothe used to be popular open sources projects. In the end it's the one with extensible architecture and better code quality wins. The winner provides a solid infrastuctrue we can rely on and we just need build  the functionalities we need. Now the winner event built acommercial ecosystem around itself. If store team can manage the project with the same philosophy, I think we will get there someday.

So guys, let's be realistic. Please dont' try to make the module do everything, make it flexible enough and rock solid so we can do everything.

Thanks  a lot

Hi guys

I do strongly agree with the Platform to work from, as a living I develop add on modules for an accounting system, all are built on top of the core financials system, I design the tables and relationship links, write the code logic, and layout the forms, but I find that DNN is not that easy to develop, so I have purchased several of the DNN Store "Solutions" from Snowcovered, non of which have some of the basic product attributes I would expect in a commercial package, although they are sold commercially,  so this is my opinion, the better the base, the better the usability.

I love DNN and have two sites using it's many modules "Out the Box", I may in time be able to write a module to get what I want from a DNN store, from the base module, but this will be later down the line, as I have to learn "how to" first, but a lot of users will try the module, see it's limitations, buy several other "Solutions", then give up on DNN, because like me they do not have the skills to extend DNN.

I like to base a solution on real life, I walk in a store, lets say I pick up a shoe, not my size, go to the counter, "Do you have this in a size 11?", answer "Hold on Sir I will Check!", goes to the PC and searches for "Product ID" and "Size Variant" returns the Stock Quantity = 3, goes to the stockroom and I get my new shoes, the store gets a sale!

In the store module I have to set up each style and size as a different product, so I can make my stock available, or how else can I sell my "Variant" products online, shoes, dresses, or other multipacks

I don't sell any of these products, so these are just scenario's I am discussing, what I am looking for was a mulitple price option for the same product, photographic prints in various formats.

If I do build a generic solution, I shall make it free to use!

David
