If you want the right hand column to be 200 pixels wider and chop off any content that spills out of it, you should set the width of the column and then set the overflow to hidden.

   width:200px;
   overflow:hidden;

Thanks Isomies but that doesn't work.

Am I fighting a losing battle against the modules that I am inserting ?

Thanks. I've sort of done it, but only by forcing the content pane to be 500px.

Which means that it never expands if there is nothing on the right or left....
