The error still occurs in 5.5.0. It happends when the language pack includes translatations for a module which is not installed in the host. On the methode ReadCustomManifest of LanguageInstaller.vb, the algorithm admit that the object Pacae will be something, but in this particular case we get a null reference exception. Solution : Remove from the language pack the whole "package" section of modules that you don't have on the host. Note : I found this while serving the Dnn 5.5.0 Full French language pack from www.dnn-fr.org.

FWIW...I just ran into this on a portal upgrade too. (from 4.9.4 > 4.9.5. Then to 5.1.4 and finally to 5.6.2. All sort of things throwing errors. Found this thread and a check of the language editor shows US English as the default...but nothing in the dropdown and nothing in the grid.

I had another 5.6.2 clean install so I generated a Full en-US file and uploaded it...but it didn't like the file.

So I uploaded an en-GB file (downloaded from DNN) and voila. both the GB and the US file show, the values are in the dropdown now. So I selected en-US ad clicked update...all is working again.

Also, I reset permissions on the entire DNN directory before doing any of this.
