I would like to allow any one of my users to add events that will be moderated.  My question is, is there a way to do this without granting all users edit rights to the module.

Perhaps, I missing something, but I can't seem to figure this out.

Hi Tom,

To do this you should grane edit rights to the module to 'Registered User'. This should only give users the right to add and edit their own events, nothing else. You can then enable moderation in the moderation settings.

There is a bug in DNN 5.1 I think which gives users greater permissions (i.e. permission to edit module settings), but I believe this is fixed in 5.1.1.

I just tried this and it does not work like you describe.  The Registered user is granted full user edit rights. 

Still looking for good fix.

What version of DNN are you using, and what version of the Events module?

DNN 5.1.0

Events - 5.0.1,  Just downloaded the other day from codeplex

Both were clean new installs.  There has been no upgrades
