The installation is timing out, apparently from the number of recurring events that it has to expand out into individual events.  The time frame for the recurring events are realistic for the way we schedule things, but I suppose we will have to shorten them just so we can use the new events module.

We have so many events in our calendar that the only way I'm going to be able to find them all and change them all to shorter time frames is to do it programmatically, which is risky.  I really dislike changing data from the back end.

I don't suppose you will be able to find a way at a future time to have the smaller amount of data in the database and still be able to handle recurring events adequately?

I like the new features of the new upgrade but it may not work for us.  Plus, our web hosting service limits our database to 200 Mb and we are already pushing that limit. Upgrading to this module, with all the additional events records could easily push us over that limit, even with shortening the time frame on every one of them.

Hi,

There are possibilities for data reduction since there is some data duplication introduced in order to provide simple easy of access to event data and improve site performance. I'm not sure we will want to limit the functionality and flexibility though, but we will bear it in mind.

I think that cutting back some of your timelines will reduce the data requirement substantially. I can see you have Events such as 'Sunday Service' and 'Tai Chi' going out to 2099. Cutting these back to 2019 would reduce about 90% of the data, and bear in mind after the upgrade you could then extend these again, though this should be done via the interface to ensure events get created correctly.

Cheers
Roger

Just as an addendum, a quick count of the events you have in June 2099, shows 43 events planned for that month. This means that given a 90 year period, the module is trying to create over 45,000 events. Cutting this back to 10 years, would reduce it to just over 5,000.

It would be worth testing this against the different data sets, since we haven't tested an upgrade that creates quite that many events.

Cheers
Roger

After further research I discovered that the installation itself is not timing out, but the tasks that spin up after the installation may be timing out?  I ran sp_spaceused during that long-running task and watched the database size creep up from 82 Mb to 152 Mb!

The installation generated 1 "Host Alert" for the actual installation with no errors, but then following that were 17 "Module Update" events that all ran for 10 minutes.  They all look succesful. The first one reads as follows:

Module Upgraded: DotNetNuke.Modules.Events.EventController, DotNetNuke.Modules.Events
Version: 03.01.00
Results: Events Module Updated: 03.01.00
Server Name: KEWLGEEK

And the last one reads as follows:

Module Upgraded: DotNetNuke.Modules.Events.EventController, DotNetNuke.Modules.Events
Version: 05.00.01
Results: Events Module Updated: 05.00.01
Server Name: KEWLGEEK

At then end of the 10 minutes I was able to reach the calendar page and it had the same "Argument 'Length' must be greater or equal to zero." and cross-site scripting errors.

Can you have a look at what it says against the version 4.1.0 update, and post here.

By the way I like the graphics on your sites, look great!!
