Just wondering if anyone has a site with the latest store module up and running on it - I'm just looking to get some idea as to how it is meant to look and where modules etc are best located.

Cheers

K.

I am currently trying to get a dnn store up and running.

I have not had much luck, I have purchase Portal Store and YandeStore .  Yande store works well out of the box, nice graphics but a little simple. Absolutely no documentation.

Portal store is extreemly compicated. and I have not been able to get it up and running yet.  It has poor confusing documentation (which seems to be the norm with DNN moduels )  and I wouldn't reccomend it yet, unless you have a lot of time on your hands

I would just like a simle store that works ,similar to Joomla' virtue mart, and there just doesn't seem to be one for DNN.  , unless you want to spend $1300 for aspstorefront. PLease let me know if you have better luck

Thanks,

James

Hi,

You can browse around at

www.watermansite.com/shop

There are lot of things in dutch, but you can see how it is organized.

James,

I understand some of your frustration (esp. with documentation), but my experience overall is pretty positive.  Here's a summary of my experience:

  1. I first looked at (and purchased) AliCommerce.  It claims to have a long list of features, however in general use it breaks down and has significant limitations.  Also the user interface for AliCommerce is very non-intuitive and gets in the way.
  2. So I took another look at the core DNN Store (v2.01). In fact I find it to be a great solution, with the hopes of being even better.  I've been working with it for about a month.
    • PRO:
      • The user interface is really excellent.  A fairly minimalist approach with just the right number of bells and whistles.
      • Very stable.  I ran into just one bug with checkout, and got a patch right away.
      • Configurable.  There are a lot of sensibe config options, and also it's easy to access the templates and styles.
      • Forum support is pretty strong and usually I can get an answer within a day or two.
    • CON:
      • As you mentioned, virtually no documentation.
      • Styles and templates out of box are not in a good format.  Basically I deleted all the stylesheets and created my own single stylesheet with just about 5 lines.  Then I had to spend a lot of time (maybe 4 hours) reworkiing the templates (ProductDetail.htm and ProductList.htm) to get them looking the way I wanted.

I'll have a store online today and another store online within 2 weeks.  I'm planning to use Portal Store for all future shopping sites.

Features I desperately need:

  • Address integration within DNN core
  • Product Attributes

Anyway, that's my experience to date.  I encourage you to take another look at Portal Store, with a little work (mostly templates and styles) it can be a great solution.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for you post and your insight. I have since become better friends with Portal Store. I corrected a couple of problems that I had with the initialinstallation and have also found some tutorial videos that were very useful (which they don't tell you about, they just let you stumble upon them).  I have since created a page of products that looks quite nice and I will be launching a test version of the store soon.. I will post the link when the store is completely finished.

I have found that Portal store jumps in where Yande Store left off and adds all the rest of the fucntionality that I need, including currency converter.  It will be able to handle any number of products I need It does however lack in visual appeal which I am fixeing through editable templates and skins  There is at least some good documentation on skinning, and I am getting the store to look the way that I want.

For someone who is experienced at skinning this is a good store, functionally it is complex and robust. It integrated easily with pay pal, and had many other payment options as well as SSL support.  It will be able to accomodate all of the store items that I have.  However unfortuantely out of the box it is not very pretty, this is where YandeStore had me originally. It is visually much more appealing and has nice and easy to use buttons which clients want. The main complaint my client had about their last store was that it wasn't easy to use.

Thanks again for your response Michael, I also hope these posts help anyone else looking to set up a store on DNN
