Hi there,

I've just been reviewing the shop source, and have been quite interested to see how you've implemented the payment gateway providers.  I can see this system works quite well when you're doing 3 party transactions, and redirecting to another site to collect credit card details.  However, I don't yet understand what the intention is with 2 party transactions.

How would you force the browser into Https mode if the gateway provider selected takes credit card details from the user?

I'm liking the progress you're making.  I've had several clients ask me if my store product integrates with DNN - and it doesn't - so it's great to see you making one that does.

Is this an issue there's no answer for yet?

I am not sure I understand "3 party transactions" vs "2 party transactions". Currently both PayPal and Authorize.Net gateways have been setup to use HTTPS. The payment gateways are provider-based, so new gateways can be added by 3rd parties. A whitepaper will be available soon to explain how to implement your own payment gateway. Watch for it on the Store Module project page.

Thanks for the reply.  Sorry - I should have been clearer.

A 3 party transaction (in the jargon I'm familiar with) is one where the shopper comes along, fills their cart, clicks check out, and then is redirected to a payment gateway to enter their credit card details (using the gateways secure site), and then they're returned to the shopping site.

A 2 party transaction has the shopper fill their cart, go to the check page within the shop, enter their credit card details, click submit, and then the shop uses a webservice or some other technique to talk to a payment gateway behind the scenes, and the shop then shows the result to the user.

As I understand the two gateways in place at the moment - The paypal is a 3-party system - i.e. the shopper is redirected to paypal to complete the transaction.  So there's no need for the shop to be operating under https in this scenario.

With authorize.net, I think (but may be wrong) that the shopper enters their credit card details directly into the shops checkout page.  If the shopper enters their credit card details into the shops checkout page, then surely the checkout page needs to be operating under https?  If this is the case, how do you flip the checkout page over to https mode?

Does this make more sense?

Thanks for the explanation. When using Authorize.Net, the checkout page collects the credit card info, then uses a .NET WebRequest object to post the transaction data to the URL defined in the gateway's admin. Typically this URL should be HTTPS. Hope this answers your question.
