Hi David,

For me B2B is Business To Business.  This is why I ask!

This could be possible without too many modifications. It's just an email, no?
How do you imagine this kind of feature? For me, this could be somthing like that :

  • A Suppliers/Manufacturers table would be needed, with controls for manage it (Add/Edit, List, ???).
    • ManufacturerID
    • Company
    • Some fileds for his address, phone, email
    • A contact name
  • Each product have a field Manufacturer, then :
    • 1 SQL command for create the Manufacturers table
    • 1 SQL command for insert distinct Manufacturers name from Products table to Manufacturers.Company
    • 1 SQL command for add the column ManufacturerID to the Products table (Foreign Key)
    • 1 SQL command for update the Products.ManufacturerID with a join between Products.Manufacturer and Manufacturers.Company
    • 1 SQL command for drop the column Products.Manufacturer
    • 1 SQL command for adding a constraint between Products.ManufacturerID and Manufacturers.ManufacturerID

Fine! Now whe have our Suppliers/Manufacturers logic, and what? Do you send an email to the manufactuer any time a customer buy a product? Good questions, no?

Gilles

Hi Gilles,

Sorry for my mistake on spelling, my meaning is also Business to Business.

But I think the B2B not only need a manufacturer field in product table, but the most important thing is that

every registered member can apply for a sub-store in the website and he can manage this sub-store

such as ADD/EDIT/DELETE products and categories.

I don't know whether the store module has this feature now or has any plan to include this feature

in the future release?

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Concernig the registrer members this can be done easily too for products. Because each product have a manufacturer field, we can limit access to the manufacturer's products only. But, we can't limit for some categories. First because a category is not linked to a manufacturer, but also because a 'generic' category could contains products from many manufacturers.

I can't tell you if this feature will be added in a future relase. For now, I just 'think' about.  Before any modifications, we must have some exchanges about the idea and how it can be implemented.

Gilles

Hi Gilles,

The category i mentioned before isn't the generic category as you think. I mean the category as product series which can be used just inside the sub-store and every sub-store can has different product series so it should be managed by the registered member himself, no?

Concerning the generic categories i agree with you that it should only be managed by administrators. Something else, i think the generic categories and the product series should be able to be organized by multi-tiers, that means the category table need a FATHER_CATEGORY/FATHER_SERIES field. I can't find this feature in the store module now but the WWStore has it.

I think a simple B2B module which i need should have the basic features of ebay or alibaba portal, do you also want this?

Daniel

Hi David,

By “Unit cost”, do you think to the price paid by the merchant to the supplier? Concerning your example, of course two emails will be sent, one by supplier. But you do not ask to my question. Is it better to sent an email to the supplier for each order, or waiting for an action by the administrator like a button "Sent Order" for each supplier?

For your specific problem, I have already explain that's a lot of work.  Even if I retain the idea that it is necessary to be able to define several prices (by color, size, etc), I continue to think that one needs a simple system and more generic.

Gilles

Hi Daniel,

By adding a column RoleID to the supplier table, we could control access to add/modify the products of a supplier. In Admin > Security Roles, we define a role for the suppliers. In the Store settings, we select this role to specify the role of the suppliers. Thus, the supplier logon to the web site with a standard dnn account. If this account is in the role specified he can modify his produtcs or add new one.

Concerning the parent category, this feature will be in the next version. Like all the other functions of WWStore and a lot of other things!

I do not use ebay or alibaba portal, can you explain your needs wtih details?

Gilles
