I am alittle confused about this.  I created a security role.  Not public, not auto assigned but created an rsvp number for it.  Did not work just entering the rsvp number.  So I made it public and it becomes available to all.  I made it auto assign and it is assigned to all.  I just want the user to enter to RSVP number and automatically get subscribed to that role.  What am I doing wrong?

It is my understanding that the security role using rsvp works like this -

1 - user has to be registered already

2 - user puts in that rsvp code and then they are automatically assigned that role

I do not believe an rsvp will work without the first step of being registered - Unless something has changed but that's how I got it working.

Hope this helps.

Nina is right, and users need to re-login to get role assignment effective (though I don't know, why)

And I admit, there the guidance for this feature is very poor, there need to be additional instructions for the users.

Nina & Leupold thanks for the response.  I can live with having to send my users the RSVP code after registration.  What did you set preferences to Public? Auto Assign?  I am using this to invite members to various blogger roles.

I use public roles for Newsletter subscriptions only - though it is applicable for community sites only, to require submittance of a complete user profile.
