Hi,

I want to check the  password, passed from an app, in the sql database using tsql in a stored proc. I understand the password in dnn is encrypted (depending on web config setting) and want to leave it as hashed (most secure). Can I compare a non encrypted password against the encrytped one (in aspnet_Membership? table)  using TSQL and the decryption key from the system.web section of the webconfig file?

Thanks

theoretically it's possible, but you would have to decompile asp.net to see how they do it (as well as factor in the use of a SALT, the encryption/hashing scheme etc.). IMHO it's much easier to use the API to verify the user by logging in.
