Hi everyone,
I've been looking at ways of using paid subscriptions on my site and i'm interested in the 'Subscribers' role in security roles.
How is this role used? How do users pay to gain access to this role. Is there another module that i have to install?
I've been looking around for the answer but i must be missing something obvious?
Can someone offer some advice please?
Kind regards,
Matt

Right now the "subscribers" role is a default public role, so anyone who signs up for the site gets automatically added to the role. It is there so you could send out Newsletters to people, that are subscribers. Users can remove themselves from the role via the Manage Services interface.

Most websites, if not all, don't use the Subscribers role, and most wouldn't.

For what you are trying to do, you would either want to modify the existing role, so it isn't automatic. Then add payment information to the Role and the Site Settings.

I personally have never configured payment for roles. Though I believe most people that are doing that nowadays are using DotNetNuke Professional Edition with has a Commerce module included in it, that allows for payment/role membership on a website.

Chris, to modify the existing subscriber role as you describe here worked OK in dnn6x, possibly this functionality is not working/intended in 7.04 or 7.05?

For example, in admin / edit security roles  (Admin/SecurityRoles.aspx) and click through to edit subscribers:  "This role is a system role, only minimal edits allowed". So, for example you can't change auto-assignment or set service fees for the subscriber role.

I was however able to create a new role with service fees, although maybe? this wouldn't have quite the same properties as subscribers if I could change them. It would be really useful in these circumstance to give potential customers for digital content a quick link or shorter format URL (than "/ActivityFeed/tabid/57/ctl/Profile/userId/3/pageno/1/Default.aspx") to provide for users to take up a service fee role.  Right now, to describe the navigation would be like .. "click on account name, go to My Account, click on manage services ..etc "
