Hello,

Dotnetnuke adds a super long viewstate at the beginning of every page ... this is not good for SEO ...

Is there a work around?

Thanks,

You can move ViewState to the MSSQL. Please read this one for example. But this one also has hidden issues.

Actually this is pretty much a myth regarding seo and viewstate there is little or no evidence to prove whether viewstate has any effect on SEO. Google has no problems indexing very large pages - and is fully aware of how hidden variables like viewstate work.

Having said this - if you are really loosing sleep over this - you might consider switching viewstate handling in your host settings from page to memory based - this removes where the viewstate is stored - and can lead to some performance gains - HOWEVER - it can also potentially cause issues especially on shared hosting systems so it is something that you would need to test out carefully.

if there is too much viewstate on your page, it might be helpful to check the modules, which adds most of it. Some developers forget to exclude viewstate for controls, where they don't need it. Moving viewstate to a sql server would be an option - as long as controls don't need it for client side (AJAX) actions.
