I love the DNN setup and the way I can reuse web objects. Perfect for my group. Here is my challenge:

My Navy Customer has ALL internal sites behind https://. Do not ask why, it is a policy. It does not matter why, it is what it is. It is a given. Cannot change.

That stated, I have a DNN site setup, however I cannot use it. :-( the Admin and Host menus always seem to load the full URL not a relative URL. SO any pointing to the Host Menu always fails. I have seen post after post on others having similar issues however no fix that I can find. Yet. I downloaded the source so I can track it however that leads to issues when you upgrade. :)

Is there something in the works for this? Or does someone have a way to meet this challenge head on so I can resolve it and use this product to save time and money on our development projects we have? Any help is much appreciated!!!

The process has already been defined.

1. Contact the local security officer
2. Request a certificate for your url
Use IIS to generate the request when instructed
3. When they send you the cert install it.

I wish it were that easy. That is not the answer to the question. The cert is already installed and working. That is not the issue.  All other sites behind the SSL work perfectly.

For my DNN specifically to set it up and have it usable, I cannot get the admin or host menus to work correctly when I log in as 'host' to setup a site. The install went fine, it runs. However it is not usable if I cannot use the Admin or Host menu. Basically https://myname.mysite.mil/dotnetnuke works and I can log in. However, going to the admin site links for say, Site Settings, generates a http://myname.mysite.mil/dotnetnuke/xxxx link instead. And I cannot seem to get that to work.

Any help is again appreciated!

Go to the Admin->Site Settings->Advanced->SSL settings to turn on SSL.  Leave "enforce" unchecked.  That only enables SSL.  You may have to go to the Page Settings->Advanced Settings->SSL and check the box for each page individually, including the admin and host pages.  Not sure if it can be enabled for the registration process.  For SSL on a login page, you'll have to add a new page, you can call it "Login" and check the box for SSL in that new pages advanced page settings, then add the user login module to the page, then go to Admin->Site Settings->Advanced and select the login page you just created in the Login Page drop down box.  That makes your custom login page the new login page instead of DNN's default login page.  MAKE SURE YOU NEVER DELETE THAT LOGIN PAGE or you will obviously have login problems - fixable problems but not without hassles doing so.  For SSL registration you may have to go to a third party module that allows for the creation of a custom registration page that you could then select again on the Site Settings page.  There may also be some third party modules that have more advanced control of ssl in DNN, too.  Snowcovered.com would be the place to check for third party modules, but I think you could accomplish everything you need in DNN as is except for the registration page.

Rick, I cannot go to "Admin->Site Settings->Advanced->SSL settings " because the Admin Menu always redirects to http:// and not https:// so it is not that easy. If I have to make page settings per page, I will have to go into the Database directly to do it. That is my challenge. I understand what you are saying above, however I cannot do it just like that because of my menu issue.

I will see if I can just enter https:// after the 'page cannot be displayed' error comes up to make my way through them. If I can get at least some of them done I will post back and let you know. And I will eventually (hopefully) get to make a new login page and use your information to do that. And I will research SnowCovered.com for that as well. That site has already brought me great value in saving me time!

Thank you, Rick.  I appreciate the quick response.
