is there a spot to change the date and time?  I am showing friday the 30th on thurday the 29th

In the Site Settings you can configure the timezone settings for your portal. As a user you can also configure your specific time zone settings in your profile.

If you're talking about changing it here click on your name in the upper right corner and configure your profile.
