I have deleted the skins that i added to the site but they still show up in the skins drop down. How to completely remove the skins?

delete the skin folder inside /portals/[portalid]/Skins or /portals/_default/skins.

I'm having a similar problem.  I had an old skin package that I've since updated to work via the new extensions installer.  I've been able to successfully remove the old skin but the old container still shows up on the extensions page and in the drop-downs for choosing containers.  i've tried deleting the container files from the /portals folder but when I do that I get an error on the extensions page that it can't find the file.  Apparently there's a database entry somewhere, maybe more than one, that needs to be deleted first.  Any ideas?

I finally managed to get it to allow me to delete everything.  Basically i went to every page and made sure it was set to use "portal default" for both skin and container, then on each page went to every module and set them to use page default.  Then I went to the site settings and changed the portal skin and containers back to the minimal extrophy skin.  Once that was done, I had to log in as the super user and it allowed me to delete the skin packages from the skins section of the admin menu.  Once that was done, on the host menu under extensions I finally had red x's for the skin and container packages.  I uninstalled them.  Then, I reinstalled my dnn 5 extension installer compliant skin, which includes a single container.  That got everything working again and the old containers are now removed from the system.  A kinda round-about way of doing it but it worked.

I had a problem where even though I removed the FOLDER skin from my portals, it still would list the SKIN in my HOST | EXTENSION | SKIN list. It would not give me the option to UNINSTALL the skin, even though all my pages and containers were NOT using a SKIN that I was trying to remove.

After banging my head for a bit, I finally remembered to check one more area. I had PAGES in my
ADMIN | RECYCLED BIN.

Once I deleted those PAGES in the RECYCLE BIN, I was finally able given the X option to UNINSTALL the skin in the HOST | EXTENSION | SKIN list.

Hope this helps.
