It's been ages sice I've had to install a DNN environment on an XP box - but that is what I have to do for one of my clients.    I have been following these instructions:

http://www.onlydnn.com/blog/tabid/55/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/2/PageID/7/How-to-Install-DotNetNuke-using-Windows-XP-Professional.aspx

Which specify giving the ASP.NET Machine account full access to the folder.  Problem is that in this environment there is no ASP.NET Machine account.  I tried giving full access to Network Service - to no avail.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There should be an ASPNET user... is that user not available?

I would check to make sure IIS is installed and running, figure out which version of IIS is installed, make sure .NET 2.0 is installed, and that you are logged in to XP as an Administrator.
