Hi

I have been working with DNN 4 before, but haven't looked at it for more than a year now.

Now that version 5 is out there and I'm about to start work with a new site I will probably give it at try.

But have a few questions I need to sort out before I throw my self into it:

  • Will version 4 modules work in version 5 ?
  • What do I need if I have to  develop my own modules for version 5 ? DN 3.5, VS 2008 ? or will VS 2005 do the job ? (I have work a bit with version 4 module development)

Thanks in advance

Allen,

welcome back. Regarding your questions:

  • most of DN3 and DNN4 modules shall continue to work in DNN5, except the developer circumvented the official APIs
  • To develop modules, you may use VS 2005 or 2008 (you will love the improvement of the tools), even free VWD 2008 SP1 can be used to create compiled modules

Cheers from Germany,
