I have a live DNN server version 4.x with several DNN sites running on a MS-SQL 2005 database.

I also have a fucntioning Development environment with DNN 4.x and a MS-SQL 2005 database.

I can down load the complete files/folder of the live DNN site as well as downloading a flat database file and restoring it to my development database.

What I would like to know is how to get the DNN site up and running on my development server using its accompanying database?  The idea is to try things out on the development version and get it right before uploading to the live version.

Theoretically, I thought it was just a matter of making the correct ammendments in the web.config file to point to the local database, creat a virtual directory in IIS pointing in to my site files and that would be it... but how do i get access to DNN site on the development server to login with host/admin accounts etc. as I would on the live site?  Assistance please!!

make sure, you add the local address as a Portal alias in Host :: Portals before backing up the site on host platform. Alternatively you can add this entry directly into table "PortalAlias" on local system after restore.
