I am having some issues with the "Portal Alias" in my DNN 4.09 installation. I have two aliases: one is the temporary URL used to install and develop the site within DNN; the second alias is the URL as it should appear to visitors. I have cleared the site cache, restarted the DNN application, and re-uploaded web.config in order to restart IIS.

When I go to the site via the primary, temporary URL alias, the backend control panel functions fine. When I go to the site via the secondary, correct URL alias, I cannot get any of the "Admin" control panel options to function - I get a generic, non-specific error and it does not load. If I go to the secondary URL alias and log in as "Host", I can access everything under "Host" but nothing under "Admin". If I log in as "Admin" I cannot access any "Admin" featueres. I have tried replacing the primary alias with the correct alias within my MSSQL database, but I encounter the same issues.

I am wondering if there is a second location, whether within the DB or within the installation files, that needs to be updated with the correct URL alias for the site "Admin" features to function correctly. However, I have not been able to find anything that helps.

I am at a loss. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to solve this issue? Thanks so much.

Did you upgrade to 4.9 or is this a fresh install?

This is an upgrade from 4.8. The admin control panel is still accessible with the temp URL but for some reason won't come up when using a different portal alias to access the site. I'm beginning to wonder if I should scrap it all and do a fresh install using the correct portal alias.

Here's an alternate question that may lead to an answer:

When logged into the DNN control panel with a username that has host or admin credentials, what is the file path DNN uses when clicking on one of the host or admin features? For example, if I were to log in and click on Admin > Site Settings, where is DNN looking for these files within the DNN installation? Additionally, which file is telling DNN what items to populate the admin menu with (e.g. Site Settings, Pages, Security Roles, etc.)?

THis seems to be an issue with SSL. If you can access the site through any other url and get to the Host>Portals menu and get at the problem portals settings you'll se you probably have SSL enabled. If that is the case you may not have the proper server configuration or certificate. Disable SSL for the portal and restart the application, you should now be all set.
