Hi,

I made a terrible mistake, and acidently wrote over the web.config file believing that I had a proper backup (should always check, I know) and now it has hit the fan.

First I couldn't access the site, got the normal errors. Then I restored the SQL config as it should be and I could again see the site, but not to login. I think I changed the hash keys at one point and managed to pull up a back-up, but even with that installed I can't get in.

When the site was down (couldn't connect to the db) something got resetted and an install page rambled through and (I guess) ran some db-scripts. I can't retrieve the password and I don't know what to do. HELP!!

I solved the problem but I thought I should post back and tell how I did it.

The install scripts that ran created a bunch of tabels in the database. I had a "dnn_" before the incident and the "new" config file didn't have that. I walked through the steps to double check all the settings towards the install manual and it owrks fine now. It took me quite a while to fix to be able to access the site again. I do have a bunch of extra tables in my database but that's easy enough to clean up.

I will never do that again.

I have done exactly the same and cannot log in as host or admin, or anything else at the moment.

Dave
