Could anyone explain how do I set up child portals? I tried to follow the instructions (and they say I have to select "Parent" for some reason and not "Child"), but no luck - all it is doing is creating folders (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) under Portals directory and that's it. And whatever I enter into Portal Alias is useless. Or I have to actually install another portal first? But then this child portal thing is useless and there is no "quick" setup of a child portal.

What I want to do is to set up several child portals under one of the portals I installed, and  do I need to create 30 sub-directories, configure them as applications, copy 30 installations of 10MB of each, create database for each of them, etc., then it's no child portal, and takes like a bunch of space up too.

I would appreciate if someone could enlighten me on this issue, maybe I just need to forget the portal thing and create a regular webpage in each of 30 folders and be with it...

Thanks in advance,

Waldis

I've not long ago, created a 26 minute video on my site explaining how Child, Parent & Sub Portals work under a single DotNetNuke build. It should help you clarify the whole setup and get you rolling.

I'm currently reorganising the directory right at this moment, so it might take 20 mins or so before they appear. It's quite extensive and one of those things, that once you learn you'll be able to quickly decide the best choice for your client when you're deploying child/parent portals.

Thanks for a quick reply! I'll certainly check out the video.

P.S. I just recently watched the first season of "24", is there any connection with the name or just coincidence?

Ha.. I've been asked that before ... and NO.. hehe.. I'm Nina Meiers.. Not Nina Myers.  But I did have a funny situation one day when a older person I know - (I do these Neighborhood Watch Newsletters and used to go to the meetings) he said to me - I watched you on TV the other night - you're a busy person... and no matter what I said - he just wasn't convinced that we weren't the same two people.   So every time we'd meet he'd tell me he saw me on TV.. *sigh*  That's my only claim to fame I'm afraid.
