I get the following error when i browse to my local host

make sure, DotNetNuke is installed in a physical folder outside any other website and IIS website or virtual directory is configured to point to the DotNetNuke directory, where web.config is located. Make sure, there is no other file called web.config within your DNN installation subfolders at any level.
